Hoy martes 21 de febrero de 2012, a las 12:00 en el Salón del Actos del instituto tendrá lugar el tercer seminario de la línea de investigación "Estructura y Dinámica de la Tierra" a cargo de Alba Gil:

Velocidad sísmica y anisotropía del manto superior en la Región del Mediterráneo mediante el uso de tomografías de Pn y Sn

El espesor cortical y las velocidades de Pn y Sn, son parámetros fundamentales que se usan para el estudio de la historia térmica y tectónica de la litosfera. A su vez, la anisotropía sísmica del manto está relacionada directamente con la deformación ocurrida en él. Por lo tanto, esta puede aportar nuevos datos relevantes para la mejor compresión de los procesos tectónicos y geodinámicos. En este seminario se presentan las nuevas imágenes de tomografía sísmica y anisotropía en la Región del Mediterráneo obtenidas a partir de datos de Pn y Sn. Así mismo, se detallarán los pasos que se han llevado a cabo para la obtención final de dichas imágenes.

Uppermost mantle velocities and anisotropy beneath the Mediterranean Region by using Pn and Sn tomographies.

Pn and Sn velocities and crustal thickness are fundamental parameters that are used to infer the thermal and tectonic history of the lithosphere. At the same time, the mantle seismic anisotropy is  directly related to the mantle strain history. Furthermore, it can bring new highlights wich improve to understanding of the tectonic and geodinamical processes. In this talk I will present new tomographic velocity and anisotropy images beneath the Mediterraneas Region by using Pn and Sn data. In this conference I will explain the steps that have been carried out to obtain such images.
